Episode Transcription

VO #1: How can I get my boss to advocate for me and have my back?

VO #2: Should I disclose my disability?

VO #3: Is something wrong with me? Why can’t I juggle all of this work?

Jen Dionisio: Work raises a lot of questions—and too many of them get stuck in our heads, rattling around until we feel overwhelmed and unqualified.

Sara Wachter-Boettcher: We know—because we hear it all the time in our work. I’m Sara Wachter-Boettcher, and I run a company called Active Voice—where we do leadership training and coaching for people in design and tech.

JD: And I’m Jen Dionisio. I’m a content strategist and people manager—and now I’m also a coach at Active Voice.

SWB: Together, Jen and I have spent thousands of hours helping people navigate all the ups and downs of work. Like what to do when a colleague won’t listen to you. Or how to actually recover from burnout.

JD: Or why so many bosses are so bad at giving feedback.

SWB: So bad! And that’s why we created this show—so we could share the tools we use in our coaching sessions with a whole lot more people. It’s called Per My Last Email—you know, the four most terrifying words you can find in your inbox.

JD: Each episode, we’ll share real dilemmas that our listeners are struggling with. Some of them are deeply vulnerable…

VO #4: I work with mostly married men and was very recently sexually harassed by one of them... During my performance review, which my boss held out in the open, my boss told me that my work was great but all of my peer reviews said that my coworkers want to know more about my personal life…How am I supposed to deal with this?

JD: And others? Well, they’re downright absurd…

VO #5: We were all quietly brainstorming in our assigned areas on our FigJam board when our manager came into the zoom call and played a fart noise on his noise machine.

SWB: Ooof. Can you imagine?

JD: I mean…unfortunately, yes. I’ve seen some things.

SWB: Ugh, same. But now? We’re gonna talk about them—together. On Per My Last Email—the new podcast from Active Voice. Coming April 6 / April 13. Find us at PMLEshow.com, or wherever you listen to podcasts.

JD: Because it’s not all in your head: work gets weird. We’ll help you get through it—no passive-aggressive emails required.
